The Arnis event kicked off with a workout at the Dojo on Friday evening.
Professor McManus arrived into Knoxville accompanied by her young
nephew Michael and niece Jackie. The three joined the Karate Five karate
kas and their guests for an all-evening session.

Saturday morning Professor McManus, along with Michael and Jackie, met for breakfast with the dojo leadership. From there to the Arnis training site. Training started at about 9 am with about thirty participants of all ages. The participants included Masters Butch Hill, Chris Spruiell, Joe Laney, and students from their dojos.

THE MEDALLION -by Grandmaster Maurice Msarsa

Throughout history, medallions have been awarded to deserving people as a sign of
recognition, accomplishment, and success.

The Karate Five Association created its own medallion, and has awarded it to different
individuals on many occasions. The medallion has been designed to demonstrate our
approach to martial arts training. Isshinryu is our foundation. We embrace the philosophy
of cross training.

For our Modern Arnis event on April 22, a special medallion was prepared by Master
Mason to salute and honor two of our guest participants. The Mizu Gami graced one
side, and the Symbol of the Modern Arnis Federation graced the other. Master Mason
awarded one each to Masters Joe Laney and Chris Spruiell.
