CONGRATULATIONS KARATE 5. Once again we, as an organization, step up to bat and hit a home run with
the 8th Annual Arnis Event. Everyone worked hard to bring this event to fruition and it was an overwhelming
success. In some ways, it even exceeded our own expectations.
Having worked with the Board in the planning stages, I was able to see and evaluate the event from both
sides – preparation and participation. The techniques taught by Grandmaster McManus and her students
were well received by those in attendance. All students worked hard and, I believe, enjoyed themselves.
The only down side to the overall event was the small number of ICA members who attended.
Since the event was free to all ICA members, we had hoped they would have more of a presence and
support the Karate 5 as we have supported them in their events.
Overall, the event was a resounding success and I am proud to be a student with the Karate 5. Thank you,
Grandmaster Wilson and Master Mason for your dedication to providing a quality program for your students.

Grand Master Wilson,
With the permission of Grand Master Mcmanus, I would like to
extend my personal thanks for allowing me to be apart of your wonderful
seminar. The skill and discipline displayed by all of your students was
nothing less than amazing. I can honestly say that I have never seen a
group of individuals so disciplined and dedicated to their art than the
students associated with Karate 5. I was extremely impressed with the
grace of Instructor Lee and the strength of Instructor Wilson. I could
only hope to one day posses the talent and martial skill that they
command.
My experience with you, sir, was even more spectacular. Grand
Master Mcmanus spoke highly of you, but nothing could have prepared
me for the amount of knowledge and martial skill you truly own. I have grown
tremendously as a warrior, a leader, and as a man, from your teachings
and I can not thank you enough for that sir. It was my honor to have sat
and heard your wisdom.
I would like to thank you and the rest of the Karate 5 team for welcoming
me to your school. God willing, I hope that next year I may return to share in
the learning experience with you and your students.
Very Respectfully,
Devin C. Dunson

Sir,
With the permission of Grandmaster McManus, I would like to
write to you and your students in order to express my gratitude
and admiration for the training experience offered by Karate Five.
The skill and wisdom shared both on and off the floor will no doubt
continue to affect myself, my peers, and our sailors and Marines
in the years to come. You truly have a dynamite program on
your hands. Semper Fi!
Very Respectfully

MASTER WILSON: FRANKLY YOUR 3 PART INTERVIEW ANSWERS ARE SO FAR
OVER THE
HEAD OF SOME, HEY WON'T GET IT ANY HOW. BUT TO THE ONES THAT
LOOK FOR THIS KIND OF
TRUTH, IT WILL BE PAUL'S LETTER TO THE CORINTHIANS. IT IS SO
DEEP YET INNOCENTLY HONEST,
IT WILL AT WORST, ILLUSTRATE YOUR DEPTH OF THINKING AND FOLLOW
UP ACTION. I AM PROUD TO
DISPLAY YOUR INTELLECT AND LIFE PHILOSOPHY LIKE THIS. I FEEL
THAT SOME WHO ONLY THOUGHT
THEY KNEW YOU WILL DISCOVER THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO KNOW. I
FEEL THAT LINDA'S
CONTRIBUTION WAS THE MOST REVEALING OF THE SERIES. WHAT MAN
WOULD NOT WANT TO
APPEAR LIKE THAT IN THE EYES OF HIS WIFE. SHE MADE IT CLEAR THAT
YOU HAD EARNED EVERY
ACCOLADE. KNOWING LINDA, I WOULD SAY THAT, THAT WAS THE TRUEST
THING SAID. THE TERM
"POWER COUPLE" STILL APPLIES HERE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME,
ENERGY AND INSPIRATION.
YOUR FRIEND AND PARTNER ON THE PATH, DENNY

GENTLEMEN:
I DON'T WANT TO APPEAR TO BE A CHEERLEADER, BUT I MUST WRITE
AGAIN
TO SAYCONGRATULATIONS ON THE "GARY LONG" INTERVIEW. YOUR
QUESTIONS WERE WELL
DESIGNED TO ALLOW GARY TO SAY AS MUCH AS HE FELT LIKE SAYING. TO
HIS CREDIT, HE SPOKE
DIRECTLY FROM HIS HEART. AS THIS WAS IN A SERIES OF HAROLD LONG
ARTICLES TO HONOR HIS
LIFE AND REMEMBER HIS PASSING, I WOULD SAY YOU ACCOMPLISHED FAR
BEYOND THAT. YOU
REVEALED HIS FAMILY'S PERSONAL THOUGHTS, AND EVEN
DISAPPOINTMENTS. FOR THE ISSHIN-RYU
COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE, THESE ARTICLES WILL SERVE AS AUTHENTIC
HISTORY AND DOCUMENTATION
TO A LOT OF PREVIOUSLY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS. IN THE LAST TEN
YEARS, SOME HAVE TAKEN MORE ADVANTAGE OF THE MISTAKES MR. LONG
MADE, THAN THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY HE LEFT THEM. THE LONG
FAMILY ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE WHOLE TRUTH OF THE FINAL
DAYS OF HIS PASSING, AND FOR BETTER OR WORSE WHO HE
AUTHENTICALLY LEFT HIS LINAGE TO. AND NOW NO AMOUNT OF ARTICLES
PRO OR CON, CAN DISPUTE IT. YOU CAN THANK YOUR INTERVIEW FOR
THESE REFLECTIONS AND TRUTHS.

MASTER'S
WILSON AND MASON: THANK YOU FOR SPENDING THE TIME ON MR. LONG'S
ARTICLE
TO GET IT RIGHT. RATHER THAN JUST DO A COOKIE CUTTER ARTICLE
WHICH DOES LITTLE MORE
THAN RECITE HIS RESUME, YOU HIGHLIGHTED THE MAN HIMSELF. THIS
TYPE OF TESTIMONY TO HIS
MEMORY, EDUCATES AND SOLIDIFIES HIS PLACE IN ISSHIN-RYU HISTORY.
ESTABLISHING A VEHICLE FOR

THANK YOU FOR SUPPLYING MUCH OF THAT MATERIAL WITH THIS ARTICLE.

MASTER MASON AND KARATE FIVE: YOUR ONGOING COMMUNITY
OUTREACH PROGRAMS ARE AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY
PEOPLE WITH A VISION. YOU HAVE LONG AGO REALIZED THAT THE DOJO
CULTURE , IS ONLY ONE OF THE SUM OF THE PARTS TO THE CULTURE OF
THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE. I HAVE REFERRED TO YOU BEFORE AS "A
LEADING EDGE ORGANIZATION." YOUR LATEST INVOLVEMENT IS JUST
ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THAT.

Friends,
Kathy and I were proud to see the photos of your awesome
performance at the recent tournament. It is a true indication of the
dedication and commitment to hard work and discipline that are
the hallmarks of the Karate Five program. We are proud to
have trained with you and to be considered part of your
extended team. We hope your continued hard work and
dedication is acknowledged in future events. We look forward
to the next opportunity we have to train with you.
I must also tell you that God has given us another challenge to
face. Last month I was told that I have a brain tumor that will
require a surgical procedure. We found out today that the
procedure is scheduled for 5 August. As we prepare physically,
mentally and spiritually for this event, I know three things to be
true. First, God gives us challenges in our lives with a purpose,
we many not immediately know that purpose, but in His time
He will reveal it to us. Second, God gives us only those challenges
that we can take on with the grace, strength and help of others that
He surrounds us with. And third, no one is alone in their facing of
challenges such as this, our families, extended families and friends
are there for us. Knowing these three things Kathy and I prepare
for this surgery. I look forward to a recovery that will allow me to
return to full activity and training. I share this with you because I
believe you share the same outlook on life. Thank you for
allowing us to become part of Karate Five, and we look forward
to seeing you soon.
Train Hard, Respect Others.
May God continue to Bless You.
MARK AND KATHY COSTA
