Dragon Jam 2006 was another event that was chock full of knowledge,
fellowship and fun. The day was started with a series of presentations
honoring the "Grandest Dragon of them all", Grandmaster Denny
Shaffer. Sensei Maurice Msarsa of the Karate 5 Association and
Instructor Naomi Mason of the Karate 5 Association,Morristown Dojo,
gave Grandmaster one of the Master Dress Belts that was designed and
created by Instructor Naomi Mason. Master William Mason presented
a handmade medallion that had the Red Dragon logo on the front and
the Karate 5 logo on the back. These items are only given to special
friends of Karate 5.
The Dragons presented a special plaque to Grandmaster Shaffer showing
how much they appreciate his able leadership. Lastly, Grandmaster
Shaffer presented a "Dragon Tab" to Master Butch Hill. Master Hill
is only the 5th one outside the Red Dragon organization to receive the
tab. Master Willie G. Wilson, Master Clyde Stanley, Master David
Gabbard and the flawless kumite competitor Tony Williams are the other
members of the Red Dragon extended family to receive the Tab to date.
After the presentations were out of the way, Master Wilson and Master
Mason opened up the Jam with a drill designed to get the students to
use both hands in setting up self defense moves.
The highlight of this particular Jam, was that Bunkai was freely discussed
for all the kata except Chinto and Kusanku. Everytime you miss a Jam, you
miss out on some very important knowledge. C.U. next year!!
